Episode Notes

Rachel Kettlewell is a mother of three who founded the reduced sugar jam brand ‘Fearne and Rosie’ while on maternity leave. Fearne and Rosie jam strives to give healthier, tastier and happier food choices for children and their families and is sold in major stores across the UK such as Waitrose, Morrisons and Ocado.

Prior to taking her business full time, Rachel was a teacher in a school, and she noticed that there was no legislation requiring schools to provide healthy breakfasts. All too often kids would be loaded up with sugar at breakfast time which would have a negative impact both on their day and their overall health. To combat this issue, Rachel set to creating a jam that now saves the average family of four from consuming 800 sugar cubes per year.

Rachel famously appeared on BBC’s Dragon’s Den last year, where she turned down a £40,000 investment from Tej Levani. In this episode, Rachel explains to us the challenging story of starting a business with three kids and two jobs, as well as her reasoning for turning down Tej Levani’s investment.

“I realised that being a teacher in a classroom I could impact maybe a thousand people, but by starting Fearne and Rosie I could impact millions of children’s lives.”
